Hoyamoros Bouldering Guidebook

Hoyamoros Bouldering Guidebook

This is a comprehensive guidebook (topo) describing the bouldering at Hoyamoros, in the central, western region of Spain.  This area of Spain (220km east of Madrid) is fast becoming a world class bouldering area, with Hoyamoros being the standout crag.

To access Hoyamoros does require a 1.5 hour walk-in from the village of Candelario (near Bejar) but the quality of the granite boulders is well worth the effort.  The compact granite rock has many crimps, slabs, and big holds, providing problems across a wide range of grades from Fb4 to F8b+.

At an altitude of 2,200m the best time to boulder at Hoyamoros is in the spring and autumn. It is also good in the summer but is covered in snow during the winter. The guidebook describes over 1,000 boulder problems split across 16 sectors.

All the routes are shown on colour photo topos, along with many boulder maps.  At the start of the guidebook, there is a good description and maps on how to get to Hoyamoros.  Plus, there is information on accommodation, where to get water, plus food and drink options.

Published in October 2023 this guidebook is in Spanish and English text throughout, but a large amount of information is also conveyed by symbols.

Hoyamoros has been declared UNESCO world heritage due to its fauna and wildlife. Hence there are some important rules that climber’s need to abide by that are all covered in this guidebook.

Number of pages is 184.
Size is 150mm x 210mm (A5).
